Are student-athletes required to participate during school holidays or breaks?
Yes. Each program may have its own specific requirements, but student-athletes are generally expected to attend games and practices scheduled during holidays or school breaks.
Attendance Consequences:
- Missing a game or practice can result in loss of playing time.
- Repeated absences or failure to meet program expectations may lead to being removed from the team.
All athletes are expected to plan accordingly and prioritize their commitment to the team.
All student-athletes must meet the following requirements to participate in school athletics:
- Minimum GPA: A student must maintain a 2.0 GPA each grading period to remain eligible.
- Academic Probation:
- If a student’s GPA falls below 2.0, they may be placed on academic probation—only if their previous grading period GPA was 2.0 or higher.
- Probation allows continued participation until the next grading period, when eligibility is reviewed again.
- Course Load: Students must be enrolled in and passing a minimum of 20 semester credits (4 classes).
- Ineligible Athletes:
- Athletes who are academically ineligible and do not qualify for an academic waiver may practice with their team, but cannot compete in games or competitions.
Program Expectations:
Novato Athletics is a competitive program, not a recreational or CYO league. Participation requires a significant commitment to team practices, matches, and tournaments. Players who make the team are expected to fully commit to the schedule and demands of the program.
• Communicate directly with coaches in advance if you will be late or absent
• Understand that being part of a team means showing up prepared and on time
• Respect teammates and coaches by honoring your commitment to the program
• Take pride in representing Novato High School through responsible behavior and accountability
